When traveling to an exotic and unique location such as Langkawi, local food tasting is always one of the most exciting experiences. If you are interested in trying authentic food sourced primarily from local organic ingredients then you will appreciate the dishes on our Rimba signatures menu.
Going one step further from tasting, at Ambong Ambong, you are welcome to join our cooking class where you can master Malaysia and Langkawi staples. If you are interested in seeing where the ingredients are, we can take you to our organic farm Durian Perangin.
Now let’s get back to the food.
Udang Masak Lemak
One of our guest’s favorites. It’s a popular Malay dish, Andaman sea prawns cooked in coconut oil with turmeric and blackened pineapple adding a tangy twist to the dish. Imagine a light creamy curry with delicious prawns. You got to try it.
Ikan Bakar
Ikan Bakar is charcoal-grilled fish, served with rice and mango salad on the side. This dish comes with air assam condiment, a spicy and tangy tamarind-based sauce made from fresh ingredients from Ambong Ambong’s organic farm in Durian Perangin. Delicious.
Nasi Lemak
Nasi Lemak is a Malaysian classic dish which is well known all over the world. Warm coconut rice served with a spicy chilli sambal sauce, crispy ikan billis (anchovies), groundnuts, hard boiled egg, and cucumber. At Rimba we offer our guests additional toppings to go along with the dish. A true taste of Malaysia!
Beef Rendang
Another Malaysian classic dish, which can be made using beef or chicken, with the latter made famous by a British Masterchef when he asked for a crispy version (unheard of in Malaysia). A favourite dish, ever-present at all Malay celebrations, be it at a wedding kenduri or ushering in the new year. At Rimba, we serve the original northern Malay version of the dish, a beef brisket cooked in a secret mix of local aromatic spices & coconut. Served with rice, pickled “achar” & fish crackers. An absolute winner!
