What should you know about Langkawi?
Also known as the Jewel of Kedah, Langkawi is a popular getaway destination in Malaysia, perfect for a vacation with your partner or family. Made up of 99 islands on the northwestern coast of Malaysia, this sunny tropical paradise is a charming spot for an exciting getaway.

Jungle-clad hills, sandy beaches, duty-free chocolate, and swaying coconut trees are just some things to look forward to here. We collected some important information travelers often ask for while planning a trip to Langkawi.

When to visit Langkawi?
Langkawi experiences warm weather year-round, however, the seasons are split into wet and dry periods. The wet season can see monsoon-like weather, usually between May and November. The dry season runs from December to April, when the weather is at its best. However, visit too late in the dry season and you will find that the waterfalls have all run dry. The best time to visit Langkawi is January when you miss the rains and miss the rush over Christmas, but still experience the waterfalls in full flow.

How long should you stay in Langkawi?
It’s a small island, so three to four days is enough to see all the best sights and enjoy the best beaches and waterfalls. But the chilled-out, holiday vibe combined with the incredible surroundings and friendly Malay culture might make you extend your trip to Langkawi for much longer. Here at Ambong-Ambong, we recommend staying at least 5 nights to be able to relax, enjoy the lush rainforest, and forget the hustle and bustle of the outside world

Should you rent a car in Langkawi?
As there is no public transport in Langkawi, you’ll have to plan your transport around the island accordingly. Thankfully Langkawi is a compact island that’s not too difficult to get around, we suggest renting a car, motorbike, a private charter, or embarking on day tours for convenience. We will be more than happy to assist you in arranging day trips and any activities during your stay at Ambong Ambong.

What should you wear in Langkawi?
The islands in Malaysia are drastically different from Kuala Lumpur and other popular destinations like Melaka and Penang. On islands like Langkawi, it’s mostly tourists, so the dress code is quite different from the rest of the country. Although it is better to dress on the modest side, on the islands you have much more freedom regarding what you wear. Bring a couple of comfortable dresses, shorts, and tops, comfortable yoga outfits, and don’t forget your swimwear for beach days.
